अशोक a. Without sorrow, not feeling or causing sorrow.-कः N. of a tree having red flowers (Jonesia Asoka Roxb.); [said, according to the convention of poets, to put forth flowers when struck by ladies with the foot decked with jingling anklets and painted with lack-dye. Kālidāsa mentions the flowering of this tree in Spring (cf. Rs.6.5,16). The painted foot bears a striking resemblance in colour to the flowers of Asoka (cf.
